How Dremr handles your dreams
Your dreams are yours
Dremr uses your dreams to keep your journal and to write your readings. We never sell them and never use them for ads. You can delete them whenever you want.
What Dremr keeps
Your dreams, typed or as the text of what you said, and the readings written from them. The people and places you name in them. Your email, and your age in years when you signed up, never your date of birth. A care note on any dream that seems to need one, explained below. Plus server error logs and basic connection details.
We don't keep voice recordings. The app deletes each one from your phone once it has been turned into text.
Where your dreams go
To write your readings, the text of your dreams is sent to OpenAI and/or Anthropic. When you speak a dream, the audio goes to OpenAI and/or Anthropic to be turned into text. What each of them may do with it, and how long it keeps it, is set by its business terms, which you can read at openai.com/enterprise-privacy and anthropic.com/legal/commercial-terms.
Your account and your journal are stored by Google, on Firebase.
What we never do
We don't show ads. We don't track you across other apps or websites. We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't share it with data brokers.
How it is protected
Your data is encrypted on the way to our servers and while it is stored. No other user can reach your entries. Our Privacy Policy explains exactly who can, and when.
Dremr is not end-to-end encrypted. That's because it has to read across all your dreams to find patterns.
Google keeps encrypted backups: a daily one that expires within 90 days, and a rolling 7-day record.
Deleting
You can delete one dream, or your whole account, from inside the app. A deleted dream goes at once, with its readings. Deleting your account removes your dreams, readings, people, places and login for good.
Deleted data leaves our backups as they expire, within 90 days. You can also email us, and we will delete your account within 30 days. Want a copy of all your dreams first? Email us and we will send them to you, free, within 45 days.
If you write something hard
When a dream seems to mention wanting to die or to hurt yourself, the app shows the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline beside it. That note is written by software, and it can miss. It does not alert anyone.
Dremr is not a crisis service. If you are thinking about dying or hurting yourself, call or text 988. If anyone is in danger right now, call 911.
If something goes wrong
If a breach is likely to put you at high risk, we will tell you without undue delay. We will also tell the regulators where the law requires it.
If Dremr changes hands or closes
If Dremr is ever sold, your dreams may go with it. We will tell you before a different privacy policy covers them. If Dremr ever closes, we will tell you first and give you a way to save your dreams.
Companies that help run Dremr
Google, through Firebase, hosts your account and journal, runs our servers and keeps the backups. OpenAI and/or Anthropic write the readings and turn your voice into text. Each is bound by contract to use your data only on our instructions. If we ever add a company that receives your dreams, we will tell you in the app first.
What Dremr is not
Dremr is a journal for personal reflection. Its readings are written by AI, and they can be wrong. They are not advice, and Dremr is not medical care.
